Guard Your Credit Score With Your Life!

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

The title may sound a bit dramatic, but your credit score does influence your quality of life in many ways. You need a good credit score to make big purchases like a home and car, secure loans to keep your family afloat in rough economic times, and even to get certain jobs.

Maintaining a healthy credit score is no longer as simple as making all your payments on time. There are invisible predators out there looking for an opportunity to hijack your name and ruin your credit. Identity theft is a real and growing threat for everyone, so it is even more imperative that you protect your credit score. When was the last time you checked your credit score?

The government-sponsored AnnualCreditReport.com provides a free copy of  your credit report from the three major credit bureaus once a year, but these reports do not include a credit score. You have to purchase credit score reports from each of the three bureaus or look online for a free credit score offer. You might also consider joining a credit-monitoring service to have access to your credit information all year long.

Remember, your name is only as good as your credit score so guard it with your life.

Teresha this is true indeed! Especially with our economy in such an awful shape, thieves are out to get us.

It's so so true! i never used to pay attention to my credit score, but then once someone was using my name in like mexico (or some far away place like that) and it was ugly. Ever since then I get alerts sent to me every month and if anything on my report changes, I get a message sent to me as well. Same goes with my bank account -- if there is more than a certain amount withdrawn, I get a text, phone call, and email sen to me. Gotta keep on top of those things! #JustSaying
