- Spoofs. Have you seen Brad Pitt's existential Chanel No.5 commercial? It's meant to be serious, but it's Hi-larious! I think they've pulled the ad spot after all the spoofs started showing up on YouTube. SNL did a whole series of them too. But my favorite is Kennel No.5 by the charity Pet Collective.
New TV Shows. It's been awhile since I got excited about the fall television season, but a few scripted shows have won me over this year: the military drama Last Resort on ABC, the juicy country music prime time soap Nashville also on ABC and FOX's adorkable The Mindy Project. I also watch on occasion: Guys with Kids (NBC) and Go On (NBC), but these comedies are a bit stiff and don't see them sticking around for long. Remember when NBC was the comedy king?! I hit a rough patch with my beloved musical-drama-comedy series. Too many transitions. Too many new faces. Rachel and Kirk in New York. But I should have been faithful. The how soon hit its stride and now they are preparing to perform Grease! I am shivering in anticipation, DVR at the ready. Grease is the word. Oakland. This is a city of natural wonders. The Bay is to the west, the hills are to the east. Inside are Lake Merritt (pictured. where everyone goes to get their walk/run on) and Lake Temescal (where everyone goes swimming). Did I mention the Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve for hiking? I am thankful everyday that we moved here. Photo credit: c) David Corby (User:Miskatonic) 2006 under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license.

The premiere of "Totally Biased" with W. Kamau Bell on FX. Damon's cousin has his own late night talk show produced by Chris Rock that airs tonight 10 CST/11EST on FX. I promise you this brother is hilarious. I'm not just saying that because he is family. Check it out.
Jamaica. The land of my grandparents and parents celebrates 50 years of independence and dominating the track events at the Olympics. Christmas Music. It's one of my favorite things about the holidays. I like the classics like White Christmas by Bing Crosby and Merry Christmas To You by Nat King Cole, but I also love Mariah Carey's All I want for Christmas. Of course it wouldn't be Christmas with listening to the Jackson 5 Christmas album a million times.

The 2nd Trimester. There is a reason they call it the honeymoon trimester. Weeks 14-27 are the best part of pregnancy. My energy is back, I feel chocolate chip kicking all the time, and I am eating like a normal human being instead of a vacuum cleaner.
End of Year/Best of Lists. I'll buy any magazine with one of these cover titles. I enjoy reading year in review articles about the best and worst of books, movies, television, music, events, fashion, and celebrity behavior. People magazine's issue was tops, full of pictures and hilarious recaps.

The Big C on Showtime. I am a big fan of Laura Linney's movies, but she is bigger than life the on the small screen in this serial dramedy about Cathy, a woman battling stag 4 skin cancer while trying to keep her dysfunctional family together which includes her man-child husband, her son, her biploar brother and a favorite student who comes to live with them. Cathy is assertive, sassy, and funny and she doesn't take any crap. She kicks butt every day.

Celebrity baby boom. It used to be that getting pregnant was the kiss of death for a female entertainer's career. But oh how times have changed! Baby bumps are the hottest look on the red carpet, just ask Beyonce'. There are entire websites and front pages of magazines dedicated to tracking the every move of celebrity moms from pregnancy to preschool.I personally think it's great to see famous women start families. It makes them more real.

The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey. I thoroughly enjoyed this heartbreaking tale of a 91-year-old shut-in suffering from the early stages of dementia and the general disrespect the elderly receives from society. Mr. Grey finds motivation to get his affairs in order after meeting a young lady almost 75 years his junior. She draws him out of his shell and he begins to connect the dots between his past and present thanks to an experimental neurological treatment that will ultimately take his life. Knowing he has no future, Mr. Grey sets out to right old wrongs and reclaims his dignity in the process. It is a beautiful story of grace and redemption.

August birthdays. Some of my favorite people have August birthdays, including my Marlie and my grandma Millie. Most individuals born in August fall under the astrological sign of Leo. I don't normally pay attention the zodiac, but according to Wikipedia Leo is a fire sign. That explains a lot! They are also considered extroverts who are semi-compatible with the Taurus sign (that would be me). Anyway, I found this cool artwork of a Leo and Taurus at Arte Kjara. She has some cool DIY art projects!

Guest Posting. The beautiful gift that blogging have given me (aside from many new friends) is confidence in my writing. I am getting pretty good at putting words to my feelings and sharing them publicly without fear. Today I took my prose to a larger audience at My Brown Baby. The topic is the dreadful Summer's Eve "Hail to the V!" ad campaign. Check it out and let me know your thoughts. I'd love to know what you think!

Marriage. 11 years tomorrow I married my soul mate. It was the best decision of my life. It has brought me so much happiness, especially our daughter Marlie. I'd be lying if I told you ours is a perfect marriage. It's hard work, but name anything worth having that is easy? Wedding anniversaries always remind me about the best parts of marriage. There'd be less divorce if couples got remarried every day!

The Harry Potter movies finale opens tomorrow night! Yours truly has to wait until Saturday to see The Deathly Hallows Part 2 (at a matinee time, too). It's okay though. I can wait. I have enjoyed my ride through the Potterverse from the books to the movies. Delaying the end of an era one more day is fine by me. When Marlie gets old enough I can relive it all over again. I look forward to reading the books and watching the films with her!(photo by: Joits)

The trailer for the new Disney/Pizar animated film Brave is a heart-pounding 1 minute and 6 seconds of girl power! Too bad we have to wait a whole year before the movie premiere. The upside is that Marlie will be old enough to really enjoy it.
Thundercats is coming to Cartoon Network! This is the next best thing to the movie that we've been promised. The updated animation is nice, but not too slick. It still has some that old-school Saturday morning feel.

Father's Day. I hardly ever celebrated this Hallmark holiday because of a deadbeat dad and a lousy step-father that is until Damon gave me reason to look forward to this day. TradingCradles.com is hosting a Father's Day Giveaway on their Facebook page. Please head over there, like the Trading Cradles page, and then vote for Damon by liking this photo.
Unsung. This music documentary show on TV One explores the rise and fall of some of R&B's forgotten talents...stars who burned out too fast, struggled with personal problems that affected their careers or met untimely deaths. The season premiere featured Deniece Williams...that's was a flashback!
I do believe that Tuesday Morning is my favorite discount store. Whenever I need something specific (rain boots, kiddie pool, nursery decor) I am guaranteed to find name brands for less at Tuesday Morning.

this week I am loving...
Magnum Ice Cream Bars. These delicious little suckers are going to get me in trouble for two reasons: #1 They are in direct conflict with my exercise and weight loss goals, and #2 They are not setting a good example for Marlie. How can I deny her ice cream when mommy is chomping on Magnum bars?! They make eating bad feel so good though!
My new organic make-up. During a recent sale at Alex & Von, I picked up some Vapour foundation and bronzer, plus a 100% Pure color kit (includes fruit-pigmented mascara, double-ended eyeliner pencil, two eye shadows, blush, lip gloss and 2 cruelty-free brushes). All my beauty products are now organic!
My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding on TLC. This UK reality-doc series follows families of gypsies as they celebrate milestones, namely first communion and weddings. Custom-made gowns are ordered for the lavish ceremonies. It was mind-blowing to watch. The average age for a bride is 17! The girls are raised to follow strict social and moral codes, but they dress and dance like strippers...interesting. Despite how you may feel about the gypsy culture, you can't help but admire their close-knit community.

My Birthday! It was yesterday and it was fun! Damon and Marlie made me breakfast. For gifts I received an 8GB SanDisk for my new camera, lots of chocolate, and a copy of the book "Lit: A Memoir." My 89-yr-old grandma remembered and called me to wish me a happy birthday...that was the best! Damon hired a babysitter all by himself and we went to dinner and then saw BRIDESMAIDS at the movie theater. It was gut-busting funny...go see it!
- Some of you know how I feel about high fructose corn syrup (and partially hydrogenated oils), which is why I found this SNL clip so stinkin' hilarious! It captures the of stereotypes of the hyper-vigilante mom vs. the mom who lets her kids do anything. A perfect and funny depiction of both extremes.

I'm loving how Netflix lets me streams TV shows I never got to watch after Marlie was born. It's like the 2009 fall season all over again! This week I watched season 1 of Drop Dead Diva. This is my kind of show...a dramedy about a spunky, smart and sassy lawyer. She is also way pretty and can sing her a$$ off!
My new Panasonic DMC-FZ35 LUMIX digital camera. Damon bought me one for Mother's Day after months of hearing me gripe and even whine a little about all the moments I failed to capture because of the piece of garbage that was masquerading as my old camera. This bad boy is going to put me in the mommy photography big leagues!

I never watched "Ugly Betty" when it was on TV, but Netflix has all four seasons in the library and I am hooked! I watched all 85 episodes in one week. The show is hilarious and poignant and I can relate to Betty's ugly duckling story. I love all the characters. The cast is so diverse like the real NYC, something sorely missing on television shows like "Friends" and "Sex and the City". I really wish it was still on the air. I am going to miss watching it. Excuse me while I go cry.

My Breville JE900 Juice Fountain. This baby makes it so easy! It's open my eyes to a world of possibilities. I just finished a juicing cleanse, but I am not stopping there. I made vegetable soup and I'm going to make a carrot cake next!
He's turning into the bad boy of American Idol. Loved his rendition of Maroon 5's "Harder to Breathe." Really loved when he smooched Jeniffer Lopez on the cheek. *Swoon*
This new show on Fox, headlined by Christian Slater, airs right after America Idol so I gave it a whirl. It is well-paced, funny and smart.

Royal wedding fever. I'll be glued to my telly on April 29 to watch the Prince William and Kate Middleton wedding just like I watched his mum and dad get married all those years ago. TLC is re-airing that famous event! Meanwhile I've been gorging on royal wedding tidbits. I haven't bought any souvenirs yet.
Customer service gets a bad rap and most of the time it is well-deserved. I am quick to ask for a manager or fire-off a letter to corporate to complain about poor service or a defective product. But I also like to give kudos to good customer service, so thank you Kolcraft for replacing the wheels on my Jeep stroller at no cost!
This Pangea Organics Hand & Body Lotion from Celadon Road. It's scent is french chamomile with sweet orange & lavender. It smells so good I almost licked my arms!

Security breaches. I just love getting emails from some of the largest online companies (et tu Tar-jay?) informing me that their email service provider was hacked and I may receive even more spam or phishing emails. Should I consider their warning suspicious email?
- At first this commercial seemed lame and a little past its sell-by-date. Then I got the joke. Then I smiled. Then I laughed and laughed and laughed!

Moms who just do it...no excuses. Kia at Determined to Be Fit. She's doing a charity stair climb so please support her with a donation. Kim at What's That Smell is kicking Insanity butt and getting tweets from Shaun T himself. Rhonda at Motivation Mama Drama puts the sexy in Mom Sexy, seriously her abs are sick! Mary at the Mommyologist brings the wisdom on reclaiming your identity after you become a mom. These women inspire me to be a better mom and a stronger woman.

My first celebrity follower on Twitter! If you don't know who Victoria Rowell is, she is soap opera royalty and a foster care advocate...you better recognize! It just so happens she is also my soror (sorority sister). ee-yip!
Bioelements. I am extending my quest to going all-natural and organic to my beauty products, starting with skin care. I'm in love with Bioelements from their natural ingredients (never tested on animals) to the eco-friendly product packaging. My skin loves it too!
