Do You Know Where Your Taxes Are?

Saturday, August 6, 2011

I think most people would agree that tax season is a universally hated time of year for Americans.

According to the US Government Printing Office, the U.S. tax code written by the Internal Revenue Service is 13,458 pages long. It's no surprise then that filing taxes causes many citizens so much anxiety. But the fear of getting audited or owing more than you can pay should not prevent you from filing a tax return. The consequences for not being tax complaint are greater than the penalties for late payment.

Your first step is to fill out a tax extension form 2010. This lets the IRS know that you are a responsible taxpayer. Depending on your individual circumstance, you may even qualify for a payment plan. So, pay your taxes and avoid jail!
