Flashback Friday: Gilligan's Island

Friday, March 19, 2010

It was announced in two of my favorite magazines that Warner Bros. just greenlit a movie remake of Gilligan's Island. I used to watch re-runs of this show everyday while on summer vacation in NYC (circa 1985-1990). I remember rooting for the castaways while watching each episode. Maybe this is why I am so into LOST.

Entertainment Weekly and People Magazine both have articles about who should be cast in the film. I thought it would be fun to make a list of my fantasy picks:

Gilligan: Justin Long (Michael Cera is too obvious)
Skipper: James Gadolfini (I think he has hidden comedic talent)
Thurston Howell, III: Sean Connery (he'd steal the movie!)
Lovey Howell: Betty White (I'm loving this Golden Girl's renaissance!)
Ginger: Kate Walsh (the hair, the shape, the sultry glare)
Mary Anne: Zooey Deschanel
(she has the wide-eyed innocence that masks a inner wild child)
The Professor: James Denton (he proves he is a fix-it man on Desperate Housewives)

Who would you cast?

I'd like to see Chris Rock as Gilligan. I have no idea why but that is what popped into my head when you said they were making a movie.

I bet it would be FUNNY LOL.

I like James Gandolfini as Skipper!

I loved Gilligan's Island as a kid, but I'm not sure if the world is ready for a modern Gilligan. I'm betting it'll be one of those movies that is either great or a flop, no in between.

I've probably seen every episode of Gilligan there is. I love the other commenter's suggestion of Chris Rock. Genius. And Zooey Deschanel as MaryAnne-perfect!

Happy SITS Day. Love this post.
