The Kid's Log: January 20-26, 2013

No photos this week, sorry!

I had my cavity filled on Thursday and I never, ever want to go through that again. So I started researching natural methods for preventing and reversing tooth decay. One article stood out. I am going to start making re-mineralizing toothpaste.

Toddler Log: 3 Years and 23 Weeks Old
Marlie had a challenging week. She has been acting extra needy as in she suddenly can't do anything without help. She's been extra cranky too and taking it out on her brother. I hope this is just a rough patch because she is usually gentle with him. She starts gymnastics this week and I hope that brings her out of her funk.

Baby Log: 41 Weeks Old
Desmond had his first peer play date on Tuesday at a neighborhood park. There was a baby three months younger than him and one 3 months older than him. He was the only one who could walk which he gladly showed off. He was the toast of the playground. At one point there was a crowd of moms gathered to watch him go! I wish I could say all that activity wears him out. But he is on a nap strike. I wish I could say that means he sleeps late. But he is waking up between 5 am-5:30 am every morning ready to party. I'm the one who isworn out!

Thanks for the link tot he remineralizing toothpaste. Currently, we use Biotene, which I have to order through Amazon, as no one around here carries it. I had tried to make my own toothpaste, but the Little Miss wouldn't use it, since it was so bitter. She will use Biotene. All I can say is that she never got another cavity since we switched to Biotene. She had a bazillion cavities the first few years of life and even had three teeth pulled. Part of it was just her fighting us so much about brushing her teeth, it was a miracle we got her teeth brushed at all. I also don't know if it was the Biotene or the fact that I weaned her at the same time that her teeth started improving. She used to want to nurse ALL night long, at the age of almost three. Some people say that breast milk actually prevents cavities, so I don't know and don't want her used as a reason for women not to do extended breast feeding. Maybe it was just switching to Biotene....

Nice! I want to start making my own toothpaste as well.

Coconut oil is supposed to be very good at cleaning things out of your mouth. You might want to research oil pulling. I've been using it (but not consistently) to get rid of a bit of oral thrush. It's only working so-so, but again, I'm not consistent :p

Sounds like she's having a rough patch. I hate going to the denist.

Of course lil man is on a nap strike mama - he has too much walking to do ;-) Can't wait to hear about Marlie in gymnastics. And about that cavity so sorry to hear that. As someone who experienced an onslaught of cavities when I lived in Wellesley for school then work after where the water wasn't fluoridated, I never experienced any kind of pain/discomfort getting cavities filled. I wonder what your dentist was doing???

I haven't had a cavity in ages but my husband seems to have one at every checkup. I'll pass the toothpaste info on to him :)
