Baby Log: Week 27

Sunday, February 28, 2010

The theme for this week is battle of the wills. Marlie is developing a diva-tude and becoming quite the drama queen, especially when she doesn't get her own way. Is it normal for a 6.5-month-old baby to cut her eye at her mother?
  • The week started off with me leaving Marlie with her daddy so I could go scrapbooking with a friend. I got one page done in 4 hours...I am so rusty, but it felt good to do something sans baby.
  • Damon installed our new diaper sprayer because someone's poo is getting thicker since she started eating solids. It's not a pretty sight and probably not best for the washing machine. Now I can rinse of her poopie cloth diapers without putting my hands in the toilet. No more poo-talk for the rest of this post. Promise!
  • Speaking of solids foods...This week we learned that green peas make her gag (seriously. she. gagged...like I just fed her chicken shit. oops, just broke my promise). She did slightly better with mushed avocados, and when I mixed in some rice cereal and breast milk it was like I discovered gold.
  • Marlie's newest behaviors are clicking her tongue, pulling my locs, staring into every mirror or reflective object, and throwing tantrums. yes, tantrums. Like the fit she was having on Thursday because I took away a piece of paper she found while scooting around my office floor. Little Miss Thing flung herself backward and smacked the back of her head on the hardwood floor. She didn't cry, but she has a nice little knot back there.
  • Our dog decided to get in on the act and started behaving like a deranged fool newborn puppy this week. He has developed a sudden case of incontinence. He has also lost control of his bowels in the house several times this week. Maybe he needs to start wearing a diaper too.
  • Marlie slept for 5 hours straight on Thursday night, woke-up for a diaper change, slept another 2 hours, ate, and then slept some more. My body's internal clock has gotten used to her waking every 2 hours, so I'd get up expecting to hear her crying only to find her still asleep. The first time I checked on her she had flipped over onto her tummy, was clutching a corner of her blanket, and sleeping peacefully. On Friday night she slept from 9:30 pm to 4:00 am, ate when she woke up, and then went back to sleep until 7:00 am! Again, we found her sleeping on her tummy. Is the reason she has been waking up so much at night because she prefers to sleep on her stomach?
  • Damon and I had a real date night on Friday for the first time since Marlie was born. Just the two of us. We went to see Avatar at the 3D IMAX theater. It is a visually stunning movie, you forget that it's all special effects/computer-generated images...but it's no Best Picture Oscar winner. Where was Marlie while we were enjoying our date? She was on a play date of her own. Here she is with my friend's son:
    Marlie and Khalil
  • We won Fandangling from Energizer Bunny's Mommy Reports and I get to share coupon code FANDANGLING10 with you for 20% off your purchase of a Fandangling (good through 6/30/2010). We also won a $25 gift card to EcoStore USA from I'd Rather Be Changing Diapers. woo-hoo!

Wow, you went on a date! Jealous! The funny thing about movies is that over the years, my tastes in movies have gotten pretty desperate. When one watches enough Blues Clues and Barney, then gets the treat of going to a real movie, all of a sudden even Ishtar seems like the best movie ever! :-)

LOL LOL LOL Very funny. I remember squishing the skins off of peas so that Alyssa could eat them.

A date? Woohoo! Post baby blues are definitely wearing off! Mommy's feeling sexy again! ♥ Happy for you both!

I think it's kind of weird but I find these details fascinating! No doubt it's at least partly from your writing skills. It's so interesting to hear these tidbits of life in the day of Marley.

Oooh I'm so jealous of your date and where you went. That looks like my kind of movie.

I remember those days when I was still on the 2 hour schedule and my daughter wasn't. It was soooo annoying LOL.

I love the picture of the two cuties!

i had the same issue about my princess when she was sleeping. as a baby, she would wake up crying and try to flip over. so i decided (against all books and doctors and my mother) to let her sleep on her stomach, and oh my gosh, it was like heaven sent. she never gave us a problem after that, and to this day, she prefers to sleep on her belly.

Sounds like someone is testing boundaries! But I'm glad she had fun at her playdate :-)

Oh she reminds me of my little Diva at that age - fling back tantrum and all!

She also slept better on her tummy when she got older and I let her...

I am still smiling at the dog... wearing diapers... heh heh ;-)

Awww damn...I have too much to say!

- Marlie sounds incredibly independent with her little diva-self! Have a feeling Cedella is going to end up this way!

- Definitely thinks she prefers stomach sleeping...my girl does too, and there's nothing I can do about it. She won't sleep for more than ten minutes on her back.

- Sounds like the dog is a bit jealous of Miss Marlie and wants to be a baby too! My dog is just like that!

My grand daughter is 6 mos old and is starting to really develop her personality as well. My son told me that she is bored with all her toys already. I told them they are in big trouble. Madelyn likes to sleep on her tummy too. Glad you enjoyed the date night!

Lewis has been giving me the side-eye since he was born. My friend comes to babysit and always remarks on how he "mean mugs" her LOL.

Did Marlie actually try to play with the little boy? Lewis hasn't been around any other babies yet. I'm so curious about what he would do!
