Wordful Wednesday: The On-Demand Generation

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

We've been in California for 1.5 weeks and Miss Marlie is already jonesing for her favorite show. Unfortunately, the cable service in our temporary residence does not have the Nick Jr. channel. Her daddy had the bright idea to download the Netflix app onto the tablet so we could stream Go Diego Go for her. As you can see in the photo, she is happily plugged in again. The downside? She bumps the screen every minute causing the show to pause or the device to go to the homepage resulting in, "mommy! it stopped working!" And I'm supposed to drop whatever I am doing to fix it because she swears "on-demand"  applies to mommy too.

That is interesting to hear that it stops working so easily. I had contemplated getting Little Miss an iPad, just because she always using my iPhone. If it is so sensitive to motion, however, that wouldn't work for us. Thanks for letting us know about that annoying "feature".

My nephew loves the iPad too and he is 5. So crazy how kids are growing up with these "toys!"

Yeah, I am highly upset at Direct TV at the moment since we don't have Nick currently. Or MTV. I seriously need to watch 16 & Pregnant. Well, I guess I don't neeeeeed to watch it. But, still.

Try out the local library ... in our children's section the DVD selection is huge! You should not only be able to find movies, but your little one's favorite shows, too!

Our little techno babies. Don't worry, she'll learn how it works just in time for you to be moving into your new place. lol Hope you are all doing well!!

Ha ha! You just described Nia. We got a tablet so I can read on the go (I just wanted a simple no-name reader but DH had to get one that had the works). It has somehow been taken over by Nia! We connect it to our wifi and she is one happy camper, but don't let anything "buffer" she goes NUUUUUTS!

My cousin has a little one that I'm pretty sure was born iPad fluent. In fact, she's the reason I had to start passcode locking my iPhone! She'd just pick it up and start going thru photos and apps looking for "her" games. Crazy!

I'm pretty impressed with how tech-savvy kids are. But I suppose when you grow up with it, it's different.

"On Demand Generation" is a perfect way to put it :)

That's a reality, isn't it?

Get a tablet holder for kids..then she won't do that and your sanity will be saved.

What Quiana said about "buffering". Or how do I explain to Lewis that the WiFi connection is slow as dirt so the streaming locks up? Our Kindle Fire lets you download episodes that you buy, so I have some already downloaded for this reason! Totally understand about the stopped working thing too. The control screen is fairly easily accessible on the Fire so the pause button gets pressed and causes whining!

I love netflix for the little ones, but I wish they understand that TV can be on demand, but Mommy is not.

my baby is just 8 month and she is so interested in iPad, if she not taking hold of my books she is getting her tiny fingers on the keys of my computer. this is the generation on tech demand

This is a scene out of our house. You put Naveen's head overtop of Marlie's and it's the exact same thing.
